With her voice, her playing, and her obvious songwriting capabilities, Jennifer Grassman could easily stamp out simple pop tunes, and with the right machine behind her be very successful with them. But instead, she composes intricate, challenging, moving yet melodic songs that remain entertaining and accessible. She easily veers away from the pleasant and diatonic, evoking strong moods and reactions with powerful yet beautiful uses of dissonance especially in her piano playing, which alone could be enough of a talent to take her places. ![]() |

Jennifer Grassman is an independent recording artist based in Houston, Texas. Grassman sings, plays the piano, and composes her own original material. Her music video, Pretty Girls, recently won Dances With Films, in Los Angeles, California. Pretty Girls is the single on Grassman's debut album, At The Back Of The North Wind. The album also features White Roses, a song Grassman wrote in memory of her late friend, Rachael Koloroutis, whose story was featured on ABC's 20/20 in October, 2009.RIGHT: Renowned world music recording artist Loreena McKennitt, best known for her Celtic & Middle Eastern stylings, greets Jennifer Grassman after a 2009 concert at Jones Hall to promote McKennitt's album An Ancient Muse and her DVD Nights from the Alhambra. Grassman's second album, Keep Silent; A Collection of Ancient Carols, is a Christmas album. It will soon be followed by Grassman's third album, Serpent Tales & Nightingales, which is currently in post production and due for release in February, 2010. Serpent Tales & Nightingales features guest musicians Mathias Blad of Falconer, Tyson Sheth of Hello Love, and Grassman's husband and longtime guitarist, Jason Greenberg. Serpent Tales & Nightingales is being produced by MD Thompson at The Ivory Tower. Because Grassman recently parted ways with her record label of five years, she is working to create buzz, and raise funds for the production and promotion of Serpent Tales & Nightingales by accepting sponsorships and donations from her adoring fans, and performing free house concerts in their homes.
